A guide

The four stages of a creator business, in order.

Most launches fail because the order was wrong, not because the work was wrong. This is the shape of a business that lasts: list, bundle, community, course. Each stage earns the next.

Stage 01

List

The list is the first proof that anyone wants to hear from you again.

A list is a group of people who chose to receive what you write. Not a follower count, not a view. A choice, made once, that keeps standing until they change their mind.

The work at this stage is small and honest. Write something worth reading. Give a reason to sign up that is not a discount. Send it on a rhythm you can keep. The list is not a marketing channel yet. It is a room you are learning to speak in.

You know you are done with this stage when the same names read every letter and reply.

Stage 02

Bundle

The bundle is the first proof that the room will pay for the work.

A bundle is a small, finished thing the list can buy. A pattern, a template, a short guide, a print. It is not a course. It is not a service. It is one object with a clear edge.

The work at this stage is to make one thing well, price it in a way that respects both sides, and offer it to the list without apology. The point is not the revenue. The point is the signal. A bundle that sells says the room is a market.

You know you are done with this stage when the same buyer comes back for the second thing.

Stage 03

Community

The community is the first proof that the work belongs to more than one person.

A community is a place where the buyers of the bundle can talk to each other, and where you show up on a rhythm. A private letter, a members area, a small forum, a call each month. The form matters less than the fact that it exists.

The work at this stage is to hold the room. Answer the question that was asked. Introduce two people who should know each other. Keep the tone of the place close to the tone of your writing. A community is not a product. It is the ground a course can stand on.

You know you are done with this stage when members answer each other before you do.

Stage 04

Course

The course is the last stage because it asks the most of everyone.

A course is a structured path from where a student is to where they want to be. It takes weeks of your time to build and weeks of theirs to complete. It is the finished object of a teacher who has already been trusted with smaller things.

The work at this stage is to teach what the community has already been asking about, in the order the list has already been reading. If the earlier stages are in place, the course sells to people who were waiting for it. If they are not, the course launches into a room that is not there.

There is no next stage. A course that works funds the next list, the next bundle, the next community. The ladder starts again with more room to move.

Why the order

A course without a community is a launch that goes quiet.

The most common mistake is skipping straight to the course. The course is the finished thing. It looks like the whole business on paper. It is the last stage for a reason.

A course needs a community that already trusts the teacher. A community needs a bundle that already proves the work is worth paying for. A bundle needs a list that already reads what you write. The order is not a rule. It is a shape that holds.

Read your own work and find the stage you are actually on. Then build the next one, not the one three steps away.
